About Humanside

Humanside covers the demand side of the energy transition.

Humans create and use energy. We buy electric cars, or don’t buy them. We put solar on our roofs, or protest against wind turbines in our backyards. We vote for the lawmakers who lead the transition, or those that disincentivise it. Whether we succeed in meeting our net zero targets, or not, the energy transition is ours.

Why the human side?

1.    The energy transition is dependent on behaviour change.

Most of the transition relies on behaviour changes as a necessary, though not sufficient, condition

2.    Human behaviour is the most important determinant of the tempo of the transition.

Whether the transition moves quickly or slowly is directly dependent on the level of societal education, understanding, acceptance, and enthusiasm.

3.    The scale and rate of human behaviour change that is needed is unprecedented.

This will be hard, but if we ignore the human perspective the energy transition will be impossible.
